1.Provide Plenty of Fresh Water

Ensure your dog has constant access to fresh, cool water. Dehydration can happen quickly in the summer heat, so keep their water bowl filled and, if you’re out and about, carry a portable water bottle and bowl. Adding ice cubes to their water can also help keep it cooler for longer.

  1. Create Shaded Rest Areas

Whether you’re at home or out, make sure your dog has access to shaded areas to escape the direct sunlight. At home, you can create a shaded spot in your yard or patio with umbrellas, tarps, or tents. When at the beach or park, seek out shaded spots under trees or bring a portable shade structure.

  1. Adjust Walk Times

Avoid walking your dog during the peak heat of the day, typically between 11 AM and 4 PM. Instead, opt for early morning or late evening walks when temperatures are cooler. Always check the pavement temperature; if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

  1. Cool Down with Water Activities

Dogs often love to play in the water, which can be a great way to keep them cool. Take advantage of the Costa del Sol’s dog-friendly beaches and let your dog splash around in the shallow waves. Alternatively, set up a small kiddie pool in your yard for them to play in, or use a hose or sprinkler for a refreshing game of water play.

  1. Use Cooling Products

There are various products designed to help keep dogs cool. Cooling mats, vests, and bandanas can be particularly effective. These items often use gel or water-activated technology to provide a cooling effect. Simply lay a cooling mat where your dog likes to rest or put a cooling vest on them during outdoor activities to help regulate their body temperature.
